Company is Dance Republic’s highest level performing company that represents Dance Republic at local and national competitions, conventions, and performances. These dancers, aged 7-18 years, are chosen for their commitment to excellence and their evident desire to always strive for their personal best. We take great pride in the training of our Company dancers and have high expectations for each of them. Each dancer is chosen for their outstanding technique, performance quality, and style. A Company dancer must be mentally focused, self-driven, exhibit a strong work ethic, and have a desire to commit themselves to the demands of the program. We feel that the positive impact that a serious dance education has on the life of a dancer is unmatched by other sports or disciplines.

Commitment

  • You must choose dance as a priority over all other extracurricular activities.
  • Dancers are required to be at the studio 3-4 days a week for classes in Jazz, Ballet, Tap,
    Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Acro.
  • Attend 4-6 Conventions/Competitions and Nationals (out of state) every year. You must
be able to compete on Sundays.
  • Friday and Saturday rehearsals. Some Sundays will be required for rehearsal if a guest
choreographer is in town or if there is a production weekend.
  • Mandatory attendance at all master classes offered at Dance Republic.
  • You must participate in summer classes and/or intensives.
  • Company dancers will have the opportunity to audition for trios, small groups, and
    possibly outside choreography.

Audition Class Requirements

JAZZ AUDITIONS

The audition will be formatted in two parts. The first part of the audition will be a ballet assessment. The second part will be a jazz class with across the floor progressions and a jazz combination.

What To Wear:

Any color Jazz shorts/leggings and a very fitted cami/dance top/sports bra or leotard. We do not prefer tank tops and baggy shorts. Proper body conscious dance wear is required. Regular ballet clothes are not required. Please bring both ballet shoes and jazz shoes (if you need them). Bare feet for the jazz portion of the audition are acceptable if you are able to turn without shoes.

Dress the part!! A neat appearance is very important! If you look good and feel confident, this will definitely enhance your performance. Take a little extra time on your hair and wear something that makes you feel good! If you are older, make-‐up is preferred. If you are younger, blush and lip-‐gloss is great! We want to see you looking your best! Trust us – we WILL notice if you make an effort!

HIP HOP AUDITIONS

The audition will consist of learning a hip hop combination and then performing it in smaller groups.

What To Wear:

Tennis shoes are required. Please no booty shorts or half tops. Wear something baggy and that you feel comfortable to move in. No tight or non-‐stretch pants.

How To Sign Up For Auditions

  • All dancers are required to fill out and turn in the DR Audition form by June 16th. This form must be signed by a parent/guardian, without signature the dancer will not be considered for Crew/Company.
  • All dancers must attach a photo of themselves to the audition form. Dancers that are currently on Diva, Junior, Teen, or Senior Company do not need to include a photo. This does not have to be professional!! It can be a picture you take on your phone and then bring with you. It’s just to help us remember who you are!
  • $30 NON-‐Refundable audition fee. If you are auditioning for both Hip Hop and Competition Crew/Company the audition fee is $40.
  • All dancers must have competition / performing experience (ages 6 and up).
  • The DR Crew/Company Group lists will be emailed to you by 11:59pm on Monday, June 25th.
  • Group dances will be emailed by 11:59pm on Wednesday, July 25th.
  • If a dancer joins Dance Republic Crew or Company, they must be registered for July classes by Saturday June 30, 2018.

**IMPORTANT SCHEDULING NOTE** We follow the Gilbert School System for breaks. We will close for Fall Break (Oct. 8-‐12, 2018) and Spring Break (March 11-‐15, 2019). If you attend another school system or private school, please know that you will need to be available for Competitions, Conventions, and Rehearsals that may be during your break if it is not during the same weeks as Gilbert. ALL COMPETITION DANCERS WILL NEED TO BE AVAILABLE DURING THE ENTIRE MONTHS OF NOV, DEC, and JAN. This is the height of our rehearsal and choreography time. If your dancer misses during this time, it may affect their placement in Crew or Company. We feel the breaks the dancers have (Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring) are very generous, and we will be requiring our dancers to be present during the busy months (Nov/Dec/Jan). We are not saying that you cannot miss a day during those months. However, planning a significant family trip or weekend during this busy time will impact the Crew or Company. This applies to Veteran’s Day weekend, MLK weekend, and Good Friday as well. Please talk to us about any concerns you may have prior to auditioning. Communication is key.
